Consciousness In The Movement Of Existentialism Philosophy Essay

Cognizance In The Movement Of Existentialism Philosophy Essay This paper means to quickly expound on the job of cognizance in the development of existentialism. We will talk about fundamentally and quickly the individual existential distractions of Kierkegaard and Nietzsche to set the state of mind of our undertaking; to which we will end by tending to in more profound detail into Sartres origination of cognizance and its forswearing, viz. dishonesty. Sartre would be dealt with all the more profoundly in light of the fact that I hold that he is the summit of existential development. One sending out thing to vibe on Kierkegaard is his three phases of presence, in particular the stylish, moral and strict stages. The initial two phases, strangely enough, separately realizes fatigue and existential suffocation, which drives us to the supported phase of Kierkegaard, the strict stage. This stage is accomplished by an act of pure trust, an acknowledgment of the limit of man when stood up to by the truth of death. While the initial two exists diverted by the requests of their jobs, the third one settled on a decision when stood up to by an acknowledgment of the part of death. Kierkegaard existential bowed is towards an acknowledgment of how weak and unimportant the presence of man when stood up to by the truth of death. Nietzsche is another brand of existentialism. A one-hundred sixty abandon Kierkegaards position, he proclaimed God is dead. Despite the fact that not actually a supernatural announcement, it reveals to us the milieu of Nietzsche is in, with its perishing Christian ethics and the force mainstream profound quality is picking up. His guiding of his lessons on the Over-man is a specific point I need to observe. The Over-man is somebody who understood his ability to make outside the directs of the standards of a given society. The idea of Will to Power is a more significant component than pressure for adjustment or endurance. Will to control applies to every single living thing, recommending that adjustment and the battle to endure is an optional drive in the advancement of creatures, less significant than the craving to extend ones force. Nietzsche inevitably took this idea even further, and changed issue as focuses of power into issue as focuses of will to control. Cognizance causes us to comprehend this interest than some other living things, and dissimilar to other living things, expand our general surroundings to have power. As pointed before, awareness of ones situation in presence is the base of the existentialist drive. Cognizance of ones self is the wellspring of opportunity. Awareness of different cutoff points it. Be that as it may, what is cognizance as per Sartre? All cognizance is the awareness of something, following from Husserl. It is deliberate and order that goes past itself, to a rising above article. This is the place the qualification of being-in-itself, or creatures that are outside cognizance, emerges away from creatures for-itself, or creatures that are cognizant. In any case, this cognizance isn't the Ego of Descartes, since for Sartre the first awareness is pre-intelligent and non-individual. The I and Me doesn't appear until cognizance itself turned into the object of reflection. This differentiation brings us into fascinating and energizing ontological investigations. Since this situation of understanding cognizance is basic in Sartre, we see that neither my own reality nor that of the other can be demonstrated however that both are accurate necessities which questioning these presence would crumple into solipsism. Awareness additionally sets up the association between the world and the Ego, neither making one another, it safeguards the dynamic support of the individual on the planet. Above all this awareness vastly floods the Ego, and this relationship incidentally is the establishment of dishonesty. Dishonesty is a lie to ones self. This self-double dealing is conceivable when the individual partitions itself, one level or perspective covering from the other what it in some sense knows. Sartre discloses to us that the cognizance with which we use to commonly think about our goal environmental factors, to encounter wonders, is an alternate degree from the awareness of ourselves being aware of these environmental factors; we call these two degrees as pre-intelligent and intelligent awareness individually. In spite of the solidarity of a solitary cognizance, the Catch 22 emerges from the state of its activity, the move of degrees by they way we are cognizant. Sartrean dishonesty discovers its root when individuals are pre-brilliantly mindful of what they may not brilliantly know, and they excuse the pre-intelligent mindfulness and stow away under the intelligent one. This is the twofold dividedness in people, of brain science and metaphysics. Since for Sartre awareness, particularly the pre-intelligent part of it, involves a cognizance of our partition from the world, something that Camus likewise echoes in his perceptions of the crazy and this viewpoint gives us opportunity. Opportunity at that point is a result of us staying alert. We are likewise constantly mindful of this angle in us, our cognizance in every case at last discloses to us that we are a being-for-itself. This ability to control these two degrees of cognizance causes us to decipher the real furthest reaches of our target circumstance as overpowering considering our intelligent awareness, and yet making us mindful of choices past and around these cutoff points as a result of our pre-intelligent cognizance. Mentally, the pre-intelligent mindfulness that gives us this dishonesty is simply the one that decides to keep in obscurity about specific issues, for example, obligation in our opportunity. In the interim ontologically, dishonesty has its premise from t he dividedness of the human presence that prompts a questionable blend of facticity and amazing quality. We escape our anguish when greatness breakdown into our facticity and feel like robots with decided presence; or when we excuse our facticity into amazing quality and resemble a battered spouse that despite everything petitions God for his better half to alter his way of life. Since nothing keeps awareness from settling on decisions on its method of being, it fears this endless opportunity, this immediacy, since it feels that it veers past opportunity. This brings us anguish. The acknowledgment of our ability for opportunity renders protection in our pasts or our character that will prompt normal examples of direct good for nothing. An awareness with dishonesty falters to and fro, requesting the benefits of a free cognizance, a being-for-itself, yet getting away from the obligations of having one, of having opportunity, by envisioning that one is secured in a previously settled Ego, of claiming to be only a being-in-itself, without any duty regarding flawlessness. Propensities, practices, items and establishments are cases from where we get away from our obligations, and keep up interruptions from these duties. On a very basic level, one can't generally get away from obligation by embracing any of outside good frameworks, for example, religion or governmental issues, such support is as yet a decision and which one must assume full liability for. Dishonesty trying to stay away from the anxiety which goes with the acknowledgment that our reality has no lucidness aside from what we ourselves make. Therefore, dishonesty originates from inside us and is itself a decision a way that an individual uses their opportunity so as to abstain from managing the results of that opportunity as a result of the outspread obligation that those outcomes involve. To give us better what he implies, Sartre composes of a lady who has the decision of whether to go out on the town with a loving admirer. In thinking about this decision, the lady realizes that she will confront more decisions later on in light of the fact that she is very mindful of the keeps an eye on aims and wants, however decides to overlook these potential outcomes in the expectation she won't be responsible to how things will turn out. The requirement for decisions is then uplifted when, later, the man puts his hand on hers and strokes it. She can leave her hand there and in this way empower further advances, realizing without a doubt where they may lead. Then again, she can remove her hand, debilitating his advances and maybe disheartening him from consistently asking her out once more. The two decisions involve outcomes which she should assume liability for. Sartre proclaims that the lady is in dishonesty and composes, What's more, during this time the separation of the body from the spirit is practiced; the hand rests idle between the warm hands of her friend neither consenting nor opposing a thing.â [1]â The lady treated her hand simply as an article, as opposed to an expansion of her self, and imagines that there is no decision and leaves it to the removal existing apart from everything else. Maybe she guards her stance as a result of the wild energy on her part, maybe she will refer to the nearness of social compel that drives her to go along and adjust a specific manners, or maybe she just professes not to see the keeps an eye on activities and aims. Whatever the case, she goes about as if she isn't settling on any decisions earlier and during that second that she was simply skimmed by factors out of her venture and into that situation which is additionally out of her range. Thus, in view of that attitude, she holds that she has no duty regarding the outcomes that will emerge. That lady, as indicated by Sartre, implies trying to pull a fast one, and inferring that by adjusting dishonesty one is liberated from duty, is simply the gravest and hazardous trickery. One despite everythi ng is dependable even in such misleading. The motivation behind why dishonesty is an issue is that it permits us to get away from duty regarding our ethical decisions by regarding humankind as the detached object of bigger, composed powers whether it by our hereditary make-up, the Will of God, enthusiastic interests, social structures, and so forth. Sartre contended that we as a whole demonstration to shape our own fate and thusly, we have to acknowledge and manage the amazing duty this forces upon us. It I

The effects of media violence on children Essay Example For Students

The effects of media violence on children Essay THE EFFECTS OF MEDIA VIOLNCE ON CHILDREN On April 20 1999 two boys by the names of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into their High school in the little town of Colombine Colorado and opened fire on their fellow classmates. Some say it was the parents others say just pure teen adolescence, I say it was the media. In the 1950s Television was first introduced to America, only ten percent of the families owned a one television in their home, by 1960 that number increased to a mere 90% of the people owning a TV, but now a whopping 99% of homes in our country own a TV. 54% of chidren have one in their own Television has become so much of a part of are existense that it is virtually impossible to imagine life without it. We all love TV. We cant help ourselves. But the question is what is TV doing to us?, and how much is too much? Children begin to react to television at a very early age, studies show that by the age of three, 95% of children will imitate someone on TV as they would a real live person, and children between the ages of six and ten believe that most of what they see on television is true life. Children learn more about life through the media than any other matter. It is said that the average child, from the ages of three to twelve will watch a minimum of 28 hours of TV a week, meaning children spend more time in front of the so called Boob Tube then they do in the classroom. This makes them very vulnerable to the effects that television causes. The average child will witness over 200,000 thousand acts of violence on television including 16,000 acts of murder in his lifetime. Violence in the media leads many children to become very aggressive, by watching aggresson how to become aggressive, and they also believe that if they act out in a certain manner of aggression they may get rewarded for it, because they just saw their favorite cartoon knock some guy out for a bag of candy.Watching the violence that does go on in the media, not only causes children to act out towards others but also makes them beleive that other childeren acting out aggressively is alright. But can you expect when the number of violent acts increases from 3-5 acts during prime time hours to 20-25 different acts of violence on Saturday morning. The more violence you start to take in at a young age the more you want to see as you get older. Violence is like a drug, it starts out in a harmfull manner, but increases as time goes on. Children might start out watching a very small amount of violence on TV such as they see a cartoon charecter hit their friend over the head, which they will most likely imitate and as times goes on they will become more daring in their acts. Take Walt Disneys movie The Program for example. In one part of this film it it features three young men lying down in the middle of the highway dodging cars, but after this movie was released, of course three young men tried to imitate the scene, all three were killed. Another movie that has been closely imitated is Interview with a Vampire. The story that goes along with this movie is that a young man took his date out to see this movie, after the movie ended he killed her and sucked her blood. A cartoon such as Beavis and Butthead also has impacted the way children react to what they see on TV. A five year old boy had just finished watching the episode in which they are playing with fire, the next thing you know his house has been burnt down and his sister has died. .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .postImageUrl , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:hover , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:visited , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:active { border:0!important; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:active , .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432 .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u1c24197291f0b30b103424ffaa141432:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Taming Temper Tantrums Essay These are just a very few examples of what the media has caused children to Too much TV fo children also causes many other problems. We will write a custom essay sample on Pet Grooming or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Keeping your pets clean and groomed is essential to their living healthy lives. Just like humans, dogs should be bathed regularly (a few times a year) and when otherwise needed (after an encounter with a skunk, for example). Dont bathe your dog too often, as it will deplete the natural oils in the dogs coat that keep the fur and skin healthy. Though cats are better at self-cleaning than dogs, they may need to be bathed once or twice a year. Remember to use species-specific shampoos and purchase them from a reputable retailer. Clip dog and cat nails at least once a month. Use pet clippers to do this. Give your pets food that promotes dental health, and consider a professional veterinary oral cleaning once a year. Grooming your pets doesn’t mean that they have to be made-up and untouchable; it simply means that you’re taking good care of their health by keeping a watchful eye on their hygiene. Pets, like humans, are more likely to remain healthy when they are clean and well groomed. Contrary to popular belief, dogs and cats are not wild animals; they require regular grooming attention to keep them healthy in their domestic environments. One of the major benefits of a regular grooming regimen is that you will become familiar with your pet’s body. This allows you to quickly recognize problems with his health, so you can bring them to your veterinarian’s attention sooner. Remember that you should seek help from your veterinarian if you think that your pet will be difficult to groom alone. Executive Summary Pawsitive Pet Grooming is a pet daycare facility catering to professionals who have disposable income and the desire to  provide quality  care for their pets while they are work. It is a response to a real market need in a high-end high-income market. 1. 1 Objectives 1. To launch the business and develop sales  approaching Php. 250,000. 00 per month by the end of the first year. 2. To break even in the  second year, and be profitable by the third year. 3. To increase sales by 20% per year in the second and third year while also becoming profitable. 1. 2 Mission We will be the leaders in the market of pet care for the  upscale community by providing a positive environment for the animals that we house. Our operations will instill in  owners confidence in our ability to care for their pets  in appropriate ways. We will control significant market share and increase profit as we grow and expand. We will develop our business conservatively, financing our growth through operational revenue. 1. 3 Keys to Success 1. The initial location will be in an upscale community on the outskirts of the metropolitan area. 2. We  will cater to the needs of our pet owners as much as possible. 3. We will uphold the statement the customer is always right because when it comes to pet, owners know best. 4. The business finances will be run in an organized and timely manner. 2. 1 Start-up Summary The start up for Pawsitive Pet grooming will be simple and cost efficient. Rent and  utilities  will be  the main expense, which will consist of a large building space and office. There will be many advertising expenses in the beginning that will promote the service, and this expense will lessen as months go on and people become aware of our service. Start-up inventory will be mainly shampoo and grooming supplies, food for the dogs, and other upplies like bedding. Assets will be the kennels and play structures for the dogs,  and the bathing facilities. Services Pawsitive Pet grooming offers upscale dog owners a place where they can leave their pets while at work, and away for weekend trips or  on vacation. It also offers feeding and  exercising, as well as washing, grooming a nd low-level veterinary services. The location will be a large lot on the outskirts of a high-income residential area. Our projections include a heavy rent because of the location requirements. Customers pay by the day, by the hour, or by the month. Our assumption is that the average customer generates about Php. 50,000. 00 per month. Market Analysis Summary The market for Pawsitive Pet grooming is all of the dog owners in the metropolitan area and surrounding areas of the city. We believe that this is going to be 2/3 of the population, and we have a goal of gaining a 50% market share. We  have a  target of a 20% yearly profit increase as the business continues. 3. 1 Target Market Segment Strategy We have chosen our target market because they own canines and have the ability to afford a service such as Pawsitive Pet Grooming. We are aware that our service is an extra in life, not a necessity. We anticipate and expect to cater to the upper-class citizens within our geographical area. 3. 2 Service Business Analysis Our familiarity with this business indicates that the service we offer is not currently available anywhere within the metropolitan area. We think our marketing problem will be more a matter of making dog owners aware of the Doggie Pause, than it will be related to the competition. 3. 3 Market Segmentation Our target market  consists of canine owners that have the financial capabilities to care for their dogs in an elaborate manner. Most will be from double income homes with high profile jobs that require an extensive amount of time away from the home. Our target market consists of men and women primarily between the ages of 35 and 65. They live in the upscale suburbs surrounding  the  metropolitan area. Our market segment customers will lead a lifestyle in which their canines play a large part,  and these pets are often seen as children  by their owners. 3. 4 Competition and Buying Patterns Our  real competition is owners choosing to leave their  dogs at home unattended. We recognize that only relatively wealthy people will be interested in spending an average of Php. 0,000. 00 monthly to provide daycare for their dogs. Still, there should be sufficient market. Strategy and Implementation Summary Pawsitive Pet Grooming will focus on the geographical market of upper-class suburbs surrounding the metropolitan area. Our initial site will be in Makati City. Our target market consists mainly of men and w omen ages 35-65. 4. 1 Competitive Edge Pawsitive Pet Grooming is the first pet daycare facility of its kind. Never before has there been a place where a pet owner could take their dog to be  cared for,  for the day. The owner feels no guilt in leaving the dog because it is a secure, safe and fun environment. 4. 2 Sales Forecast Sales are based on an hourly fee for each dog. There will be a Php. 500. 00/hour charge for the day care. This includes the care of the dogs, and grooming services. Forecasted sales are based on the estimated number of dogs that will be  cared for  daily, and an average of how many hours each dog will be  housed per day. There is an assumption that we will  initially  be offering services Monday through Friday, 7 AM  to 6 PM, with time for owners to drop off and pick up their pets before and after work. Sales will increase as months go on, due to an increase in number of dogs per day that we are caring for. Services will expand to include weekends and long-term vacation boarding as the need and demand arises. We think this is a good risk/return situation and we will provide the necessary  personal guarantees to secure the business loan. We will finance growth through the collection of the fees for our services. We understand that without these payments we will not be able to be a profitable business. Tools and Other Services of grooming Various types of currycombs Curry or Curry Brush: A tool made of rubber or plastic with short teeth. A shedding blade Shedding blade: A metal shedding blade with short, dull teeth is used to remove dead hair from certain types of harsh coats. The shedding blade is not used to cut the hair. Scissors and Clippers: Cutting tools used to remove/shorten hair on certain types of coats or in sensitive areas. Not all types of coat are suitable for clipping ie double coated breeds such as Border Collies are designed to keep the dog cool in summer and warm in winter, and should not be clipped unless the dog is matted. Stripping Combs/Knives: Tools used to help grab the longer hairs on a harsh coat and pull them out by the root. Helps maintain a proper coat in many terriers and schnauzers. Most often used on show dogs. Slicker brushes are typically used after primarily brushing with a bristle or a wire pin brush. They are used to smooth the coat and to take out mats and tangles. They are provided with fine wire pins that are secured to a flat base. The pins are bent at an angle approximately halfway down the pin. The slicker brush is typically used on dogs with long coats and those with curly coats. For heavier and thicker coats, one is recommended to use a brush with stiffer pins. This type of brush comes in a wide range of sizes and degrees of pin stiffness. Rakes are important grooming tools especially for double-coated dogs such as the Newfoundlands or Siberian Huskies. They are good in removing dead hair from the undercoat. The undercoat rakes teeth are especially designed to penetrate through the overcoat down into the thick undercoat to remove loose hair faster and easier than a standard comb. Rakes can also be used for untangling and dematting. Coat King is a particular type of stripping knives, useful in hand stripping for the removal of dead undercoat prior to clipping. These tools are suitable for many dog breeds and coats and they have become more and more popular among dog owners and groomers. They are a good tool for removing loose hair, and thick undercoats. Also, they can be used for dematting and detangling. Although they are quite a new grooming instrument, they are now widely used and recommended for dog owners. Stand dryers are also available for a quick drying of the dogs coat. Commonly, when a dog is brought to a groomer this implies a thorough cleaning of the coat as well. And because the dog cannot leave the shop while wet, special driers have been manufactured. These can be stand driers, cage driers or hand driers and are more common in professional grooming places than in the owners house. Brushes and Combs Brushes and combs are the backbone of a groomers profession. They come in a variety of styles, from slicker brushes to steel combs to deshedding tools, but each brush has a purpose. Some pet breeds require a steel comb to untangle long, fine hairs, while other animals simply need a good rubdown with a bristled brush or slicker brush. Animal, breed and hair type all factor into the type and size of brush used on each animal. Nail trimming Nail trimming is essential for maintaining good health. If a dogs nails are allowed to grow, they will curl over into a spiral shape; walking will become increasingly painful to the dog as they grow, putting pressure on the dogs toes (a bit like walking in shoes that are too small). Uncut nails may curl so far that they pierce the paw pad, leading to infection and debilitating pain. If one does not trim a dogs nails on a monthly basis the quick will grow along with the nail, making it nearly impossible to cut properly. Owners may choose to trim nails themselves or may opt to take their pet to a groomer or veterinarian.. Bathing Supplies A variety of pet shampoos from flea and tick to simple hair care products are often kept on hand by professional groomers. Shampoos are available in a number of different scents. However, like hair salons, a groomer may find they prefer one product over another and only carry that product line. Other bathing supplies, like towels, wash cloths and sponges, may also be used. Nail Care To create a completely groomed look, a pet must have its nails taken care of, too. Nail trimmers and files come in a range of sizes, from small to large, depending on the dog to be groomed. Ear Care Keeping your pets ears clean is part of a professional groomer’s job, and groomers use specially designed tools, such as pet ear hair pullers, to keep the area in tip-top shape. Other ear care items most groomers keep on hand include common household products, such as cotton swabs, moist wipes or cotton balls. Dental Care Proper dental care is important to your pets overall health. When your pet visits the groomer, it may get a full dental cleaning with a pet-sized toothbrush. Specialty pet toothpastes and floss may even be used, if your pet will tolerate it. Tooth scalers, in a number of different styles, such as angled or straight, are also used to scrape plaque and other debris from the teeth. Engineering Economy Essays

Engineering Economy Essays Engineering Economy Essay Engineering Economy Essay Engineering economy * Engineering economy is a subset of economics for application to engineering projects. * It is an economic approach in solving problems in engineering projects particularly for the assessment of projects investment. Importance of Study Engineer must take into account the monetary value in their invention as they have to position a firm to be the most profitable one * The aim is to balance the trade off between cost and performance in the most economical manner * Engineers play a major role in capital investment decisions based on their technical knowledge * To prevent a conflict between engineers and financial department Demand * An economic principle that describes a consumer’s desire and willingness to pay a price for a specific good or service. Holding all other factors constant, the price of a good or service increases as its demand increases and vice versa. Law of Demand The lower the price of the product, the greater will be the quantity demanded by all buyers, all other things being equal (Ceteris Paribus). Businesses often spend a considerable amount of money in order to determine the amount of demand that the public has for its products and services. Incorrect estimations will either result in money left on the table if it’s underestimated or losses if it’s overestimated. Supply The different quantities of a good that producers are willing and able to supply at various prices. Equilibrium When supply and demand are equal the economy is said to be  at  equilibrium. At this point, the allocation of goods is at its most efficient because the amount of goods being supplied is exactly the same as the amount of goods being demanded. INTEREST RATE If a given amount of money is borrowed for a specified period of time (typically, one year), a certain percentage of the money is charged as interest. This percentage is called the interest rate. SIMPLE INTEREST Simple interest is defined as a fixed percentage of the principal (the amount of money borrowed), multiplied by the life of the loan. Thus, I =total amount of simple interest n =life of the loan I = interest rate P = principal EX A student deposits $1000 in a savings account that pays interest at the rate of 6% per year. How much money will the student have after one year? (b) An investor makes a loan of $5000, to be repaid in one lump sum at the end of one year. What annual interest rate corresponds to a lump-sum payment of $5425? The student will have his original $1000, plus an interest payment of 0. 06 x $1000 = $60. Thus, the student will have accumulated a total of $1060 after one year (b) The total amount of interest paid is $5425 $5000 = $425. Hence the annual interest rate is TO FIND FUTURE VALUE F = P + I = P (l + n i) EX A student borrows $3000 from his uncle in order to finish school. His uncle agrees to charge him simple interest at the rate of 5% per year. Suppose the student waits two years and then repays the entire loan. How much will he have to repay? F = $3000[1+ (2)(0. 05)] = $3330. COMPOUND INTEREST During a given interest period, the current interest is determined as a percentage of the total amount owed If there are n interest periods, we have EX A student deposits $1000 in a savings account that pays interest at the rate of 6% per year, compounded annually. If all of the money is allowed to accumulate, how much will the student have after 12 years? Compare this with the amount that would have accumulated if simple interest had been paid. INFLATION National economies frequently experience inflation, in which the cost of goods and services increases from one year to the next A = annual inflation rate (expressed as a decimal) n = number of years Ex An economy is experiencing inflation at the rate of 6% per year. An item presently costs $100. If the 6% inflation rate continues, what will be the price of this item in five years? An economy is experiencing inflation at an annual rate of 6%. If this continues, what will $100 be worth five years from now, in terms of todays dollars? INFLATION + INTEREST TAXES In most situations, the interest that is received from an investment will be subject to taxation. TAXES + INTERSET + INFLATION F = P (1 + )n EX Suppose the engineer is in the 32% tax bracket, and is likely to remain there throughout the lifetime of the certificate. If inflation continues at the rate of 6% per year, what will be the value of his investment, in terms of todays dollars, when the certificate matures? Let us assume that the engineer is able to invest the entire $10 000 in a savings certificate and that the 32% tax bracket includes all federal, state, and local taxes. Interest rate = 8 % GOOD LUCK

How to Communicate With Special Education Parents

How to Communicate With Special Education Parents The best way to avoid crises with parents or even, heaven forbid, due process, it’s good to have regular communication methods in place. If parents know you are open to hearing their concerns, you can nip any potential misunderstandings that lead to a crisis in the bud. Also, if you communicate regularly when you do have concerns about problem behaviors or a child in crisis, parents won’t feel blindsided. Find Out How a Parent Prefers to Communicate If a parent doesn’t have email, that won’t work. Some parents only have email at work, and may not want to receive messages by email. Some parents may prefer phone calls. Find out what are good times for a phone message. A traveling folder (see below) is a great means of communications, and parents may just prefer to respond to your messages in a notebook in one pocket. Parents Are Stressed Some parents may be embarrassed about having children who need services- for some parents parenting is a competitive sport. Some special education children are poorly organized, extraordinarily active, and do poorly at keeping their rooms clean. These children can stress parents out. Another issue for parents of special education children is that they often feel that no one sees the value of their child because of their challenges. These parents may feel the need to defend their child when you really just want to share a concern or work out a mutually agreeable solution. Don’t Play the Blame Game If these children weren’t challenging, they probably wouldn’t need special education services. Your job is to help them succeed, and you need their parents’ help to do it. Make Your First Email or Phone Call a Positive One Call with something positive you want to tell the parent about their child, even if it’s â€Å"Robert has the greatest smile.† After that, they won’t always pick up your emails or phone calls with dread.  Keep records.  A communication form in a notebook or file would be helpful. Handle your parents with TLC (tender loving care) and you will usually find allies, not enemies. You will have difficult parents, but I will discuss them elsewhere. Email Email can be a good thing or an opportunity for trouble. It is easy for email messages to be misunderstood since they lack the tone of voice and body language, two things that could assure parents that there is not some hidden message. It is good to copy your building administrator, your special education supervisor or a partner teacher all of your emails. Check with your special education supervisor to find out who he or she would like to see receive the copies. Even if they never open them, if they store them, you have a backup in case of a misunderstanding. It is especially important to email your supervisor or building principal a heads up if you see trouble with a parent brewing. Phone Some parents may prefer a phone. They may like the immediacy and the sense of intimacy created by a telephone call. Still, there is potential for misunderstanding, and you never know exactly what frame of mind they are in when you call. You can set up a regular phone date, or just call on special occasions. You might save this for just good news, since other kinds of calls, especially calls involving aggression, may put parents on the defensive since they haven’t’ had a chance to prepare for it. If you leave a message, be sure you say Bob ( or whoever) is fine. I just need to talk (ask a question, get some information, share something that happened today.) Please call me at . . . Be sure to follow up a phone call with an email or a note. Restate briefly what you talked about. Keep a copy. Traveling Folders Traveling Folders are invaluable for communication, especially on completed projects, papers or tests. Usually, a teacher will designate one side for homework and the other for completed assignments and the communication folder.  Often a daily Home Note can be included.  It can be part of your behavior management plan as well a means to communicate. It is still good to save copies of parent’s notes, or even both sides of the conversation, so you can share them with an administrator should you see trouble coming down the pike. You might want to either put a plastic insert with a list of what should come home each night and directions for how to complete the folder or staple the same to the front cover of the folder. You will find parents will be pretty good at packing this folder in the child’s backpack. Stay In TouchRegularly However you decide to communicate, do it on a regular basis, not just when a crisis arrives. It might be nightly, for a communication folder, or perhaps weekly for a phone call. By keeping in touch, you not only can share concerns, but you will be eliciting the support of parents in reinforcing the good things you want to see happen for their child.

The Effect of Direct Effect on Directives Essay

The Effect of Direct Effect on Directives - Essay Example The new regulations of European Union Law now state that the European regulations that have been framed in accordance with the provisions of the new European treaties have a direct effect upon all citizens of the European Union and on the laws that are made by the member states of the Union. This principle was first laid out by the European Court of Justice in the case of Van Gend en Loos v Nederlanse Administratie der Belastingen1. In this case, the Treaty of Rome was at issue and the ECJ ruled that individuals could take action against a State for breaching EU rules, since the new treaty grants rights and imposes obligations on individuals. According to the ruling laid out in this case, European Community regulations were also valid when tried in the national courts, because the regulations were similar to the national laws in that they had a similar effect upon an individual’s rights and responsibilities. Therefore in effect, the Court has ruled that a new legal order has b een created. The Direct Effect creates individual rights which the domestic courts must protect without needing to resort to the States concerned, since EU law took precedence. This is known as the â€Å"vertical direct effect† of Treaty articles. A â€Å"horizontal direct effect† was laid out in the case of Defrenne vs Sabena2, wherein provisions of EU law were directly applicable in a domestic court, in proceedings by an individual against a Company. This has affected the application of internal laws within each of the European member States. By virtue of the Direct Effect, member States are now obligated to comply with Community Law as it has been framed according to European laws within the framework of their own internal laws.

Abortion - Morally Wrong for 3000 Years! :: Argumentative Persuasive Topics

Ã‚  Ã‚   The Judaeo-Christian tradition has always condemned abortion as a grave evil. The law of Moses ordered strict penalties for causing an abortion. We read, "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely [Hebrew: "so that her child comes out"], but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot" (Ex. 21:22-24). This applies the lex talionis or "law of retribution" to abortion. The lex talionis establishes the just punishment for an injury (eye for eye, tooth for tooth, life for life, compared to the much greater retributions that had been common before, such as life for eye, life for tooth, lives of the offender's family for one life). The lex talionis would already have been applied to a woman who was injured in a fight. The distinguishing point in this pas sage is that a pregnant woman is hurt "so that her child comes out"; the child is the focus of the lex talionis in this passage. Aborted babies must have justice, too. This is because they, like older children, have souls, even though marred by original sin. David tells us, "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me" (Ps. 51:5). Since sinfulness is a spiritual rather than a physical condition, David must have had a spiritual nature from the time of conception. The same is shown in James 2:26, which tells us that "the body without the spirit is dead": The soul is the life-principle of the human body. Since from the time of conception the child's body is alive (as shown by the fact it is growing), the child's body must already have its spirit.    The approximately 5,000 historic documents of the Early Church Fathers makes numerous references to abortion as a grave sin. The Didache, perhaps the first Christian catechism from 70-90AD, records the following in chapter 2, verses 1-2: "The second commandment of the teaching: You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not seduce boys. You shall not commit fornication. You shall not steal. You shall not practice magic. You shall not use potions. You shall not procure [an] abortion, nor destroy a newborn child.

Life Worth Living Essay

Mysterious is what life seems to be and time seems too short for us to enjoy it. Most of us are often told to live life to the fullest but we were never told how to do so. As we grow, we continue to search on how we will make our life worth living. We tend to be adventurous to try to know the world and what we can do to say that our life is worth living. People have different perspectives on how is life worth living. For me, there are many things that make my life worth living. Life offers many challenges but through the love that I receive from my family and friends I become strong enough to face them. Love that I can receive as I live is what makes my life worth living. The opportunity to receive and share it to others really makes my life worth living. Happy moments that I spend with my loved ones also make my life worth living. They help me create good memories as I continuously live. Another one is the chance to improve myself as an individual and to have a purpose on other’s life. As I explore my potentialities, it’s worth living to have an impact on other’s life. It’s like knowing that if I leave this world, I’ll be remember by those people which I have left an impact. And life is worth living because it lets us experience failures and attain success. Failures strengthen us to face the struggles and obstacles that we will encounter while success makes room for more improvement to be an individual worthy to be called as successful. Life that I have now is worth living. I was given the chance to experience many things. I was also given the time to be with people who completes me as an individual. Enjoying life to the fullest along with my loved ones makes my life worth living. To be able to live with people who I have a purpose and to experience being loved by them makes my life worth living. Life full of mysteries is worth living although time is too short too to enjoy it, as long as long as our family and friends are there to add colors to our life and to take part in our ups and down.
